April 2001

I am SO far behind, prepare to watch me fail

In your mind you have capacities you know
To telepath messages through the vast unknown
Please close your eyes and concentrate
With every thought you think
Upon the recitation we're about to sing

(*) Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary most extraordinary craft

Repeat (*)

You've been observing our earth
And we'd like to make a contact with you
We are your friends

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary ultra-emissaries

We've been observing your earth
And one night we'll make a contact with you
We are your friends

Calling occupants of interplanetary quite extraordinary craft

And please come on peace, we beseech you
Only a landing will teach them
Our earth may never survive
So do come, we beg you
Please interstellar policeman
Oh, won't you give us a sign
Give us a sign that we've reached you

With your mind you have ability to form
And transmit thought energy far beyond the norm
You close your eyes, you concentrate
Together that's the way
To send the message
We declare world contact day

3rd April 2001
Okay. Once again I haven't written in ages. A bit over a week I think.
Well, last week was pretty non-mention worthy until Friday, as Monday through Thursday were spent at classes, doing homework or playing Might and Magic VIII - the same game I was playing this time last year.
Friday I spent at the ball-n-chains graduation ceremony, and then having tea with "the family" - uncomfortable? Yup. I knew no-one, and everyone watched me, and judged me. And I missed the Simpson's.
Saturday I spent relaxing and doing bugger all. Before heading off to the graduation party - which I spent chatting with my friends and snubbing the ball-n-chain's. I'm so anti-social :o). And I left as soon as I politely could, so I ended up in a fair bit of trouble (especially as I went to watch DVDs with some of my friends and my ex).
Sunday I spent avoiding an assignment on Woman writers and the misogyny debate, and eventually went to my Grandmother's for tea.
Yesterday, I had classes, and a tutorial where I was proven to be plain stupid. I had to find the author of a book where the authors name wasn't printed on the cover, and I completely didn't think to look in the advertisements in the back. So wasted an hour in the library. And spent the rest of my time doing the assignment I should have done on Sunday.
Today, classes, and thats about it. I found out that I am AGES behind in ENGL368, to the point I'm not sure I'll be able to catch up, which REALLY sucks. I've done none of the readings and have no idea what I'm going to do my research assignment on.
AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh well, if I fail, I just drop out of honours and it'll still take me next year to finish up.
I wish I'd just done my BSc and got a crap lab job.
Today's song quote - 'Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft' by The Carpenters (Okay, i'm getting desperate for song quotes).

Here I am standing in the night
My crescent wand the only light
Alone against my darkest fear
But I sense my friends are near
I'll draw from each the power I need
The evil Queen we will defeat

CHORUS:
Give me the strength to carry on
With all our love we can't go wrong
Only together we face the fight
Nothing can stand against our might

REPEAT CHORUS

With all our strength the battle's won
With all our love we can't go wrong
We have the strength to carry on

4th April 2001
The weather turned truely icky for the first time in months last night, gale and bucketloads of rain. After March having had almost no rain at all, it was weird to hear the sound of rain on my roof, it even woke me - but then I can be woken pretty easily.
After my lectures I went into town with the plan of buying Natalie Merchant's Ophelia, but I got to ECHO to find out I'd missed their sale :o(. So I think I'll buy The Toy Story Boxed DVD Set tomorrow.
This afternoon, after a token attempt to work out what I'll do my ENGL368 research on, I wasted the afternnon playing Might and Magic VII, as I was getting sick of Might and Magic VIII. Then I headed off to SFT, to spend an hour talking about all the things we should start organising so we can eventually do something that might gain awareness for our cause.
Oh, I'm also reading Snuff Fiction, which is truely insane, and though funny, I'm over halfway through and a few of the jokes are already dragging. Okay, well I'll head off, coz this is plain random and I'm about to start rambling.
Today's song quote - 'Carry On' by Jennifer Cihi.
Funky Link to look at for the day.

Each morning, a missionary advertises neon sign
He tells the native population that civilization is fine
And three educated savages holler from a bamboo tree
That civilization is a thing for me to see

So bongo, bongo, bongo, I don't wanna leave the Congo, oh no no no no no
Bingo, bangle, bungle, I'm so happy in the jungle, I refuse to go
Don't want no bright lights, false teeth, doorbells, landlords, I make it clear
That no matter how they coax him, I'll stay right here

I looked through a magazine the missionary's wife concealed (Magazine? What happens?)
I see how people who are civilized bung you with automobile (You know you can get hurt that way Daniel?)
At the movies they have got to pay many coconuts to see (What do they see, Darling?)
Uncivilized pictures that the newsreel takes of me

So bongo, bongo, bongo, he don't wanna leave the Congo, oh no no no no no
Bingo, bangle, bungle, he's so happy in the jungle, he refuse to go
Don't want no penthouse, bathtub, streetcars, taxis, noise in my ear
So, no matter how they coax him, I'll stay right here

They hurry like savages to get aboard an iron train
And though it's smokey and it's crowded, they're too civilized to complain
When they've got two weeks vacation, they hurry to vacation ground (What do they do, Darling?)
They swim and they fish, but that's what I do all year round

So bongo, bongo, bongo, I don't wanna leave the Congo, oh no no no no no
Bingo, bangle, bungle, I'm so happy in the jungle, I refuse to go
Don't want no jailhouse, shotgun, fish-hooks, golf clubs, I got my spears
So, no matter how they coax him, I'll stay right here

They have things like the atom bomb, so I think I'll stay where I "ahm"
Civilization, I'll stay right here!

As is usual for the world, it hates me.
On thursday I was in a rush, and it was wet so I grabbed an old pair of leather shoes that had been sitting under my bed for ages (possibly years) whacked them on and headed off to uni. By the time I got to the Garden's they hurt, and only a couple of blocks later i had to take them off as my feet were blistered and bleeding, so I spent the rather chilly day walking around in bare feet whilst carrying my shoes.
And when i went to Whitcoull's (still barefoot), they had sold out of the one thing I wanted to buy at their sale, The Toy Story Boxed Set. Typical of the world really, it hates me.
Friday I had to wear big bandages and soft pliable shoes just to be able to shuffle. And all my classes seemed much longer than they were. friday afternnon, i decided I really needed to make a token attempt to clean my room, coz it was getting gross.
Between my inate laziness, and a visiting Bob, I didn't finish till nine last night.
Today has been half-arsed Old English swat, as I have a test tomorrow, and I'm gonna fail :o(. I just don't get cases, and my Old English vocab is still really small.
Oh well, I should go study some more. Else I'll just start on about how much I wish a nasty cancer on my mother's idiot of a partner. Who, while not supposed to touch my laundry at all, though he'd be helpful but putting all my whites in with some bright reds - ones which bleed colour nastily, and then had the nerve to go off at my for rescueing my clothes before they were all turned pink. He doesn't deserve death, just an eternity of suffering.
Today's song quote - 'Civilization' by The Andrews Sisters with Danny Kaye.

How can people be so heartless
How can people be so cruel
Easy to be hard
Easy to be cold

How can people have no feelings
How can they ignore their friends
Easy to be proud
Easy to say no

And especially people
Who care about strangers
Who care about evil
And social injustice
Do you only
Care about the bleeding crowd?
How about a needing friend?
I need a friend

How can people be so heartless
You know I'm hung up on you
Easy to give in
Easy to help out

And especially people
Who care about strangers
Who say they care about social injustice
Do you only
Care about the bleeding crowd
How about a needing friend?
I need a friend

How can people have no feelings
How can they ignore their friends
Easy to be hard
Easy to be cold
Easy to be proud
Easy to say no

Monday, a test. happy happy joy joy. But I think I may have passed. And I had a tutorial on making webpages for our topic. So while most of the class looked up their topics and tried to find info on the net, I made a web page with WAY too many frames. but it looked pretty hot. As it wasn't till after the tutorial that I thought up a topic.
Tuesday, classes. And looking at how expensive easter eggs are. And starting an assignment that was due on Monday. Xena was pretty cool though.
Today. After my morning lecture on Donne, I had a chat to my ENGL311 lecturer about my ENGL368 research assignment. I think I have my topic worked out. I'm going to do it on the use of faerie lore in english literature. So I headed into the library with a useful book suggestion, and found it wasn't on the shelf where the computer said it should be. So then I dragged a librarian around to help me find it. After some searching they found there was no issue history on the computer. Meaning no-one had seen it in years, since before the shift from the old library. Kinda typical really.
Over lunch I did that assignment that had been due on Monday. So I handed the half-arsed attempt in two days late. Slipping it into Jocelyn's mail slot and hoping she wouldn't notice that it sucked AND had been really late.
Today's song quote - 'Easy to be Hard' from Hair.

Oh
Once upon a looking-for-Donna-time
There was a sixteen year old virgin
Oh Donna oh oh Donna oh oh oh
Looking for my Donna

I just got back from looking for Donna
San Francisco
Psychedelic urchin
Oh Donna oh oh Donna oh oh oh
Looking for my Donna

Have you seen
My sixteen year old tattooed woman
Heard a story
She got busted for her beauty oh oh oh
Oh oh!

Once upon a looking-for-Donna-time
There was a sixteen year old virgin
Oh Donna oh oh Donna oh oh oh
Looking for my Donna

I've been to India and saw the yogi light
In South America the Indian smoke glows bright
I'm reincarnated and so are we all
And in this lifetime we'll rise
Before we fall
Before we fall

Once upon a looking-for-Donna-time
There was a sixteen year old virgin
Oh Donna oh oh Donna oh oh oh
Looking for my Donna

And I'm going to show her
Life on earth can be sweet
Gonna lay my mutated head (self) at her feet
And I'm gonna love her make love to her
Till the sky turns brown
I'm evolving I'm evolving
Through the drugs
That you put down

Once upon a looking-for-Donna-time
There was a sixteen year old virgin
Oh Donna oh oh Donna oh oh oh
Looking for my Donna
Looking for my Donna

Donna!

17th April 2001
On the 13th, six months and twenty two day after it's birth, eight months and 1 day after it's conception, it died. World be altered. Unchanged is nothing that counts.
Though nothing shuddered.
All is similar
Altered to identity.
Metamorphosised from Form A to Form A.
Like twice reflected dreams.
The Black Good Friday was a day of influence.
After it's morning's power, it slid into a gentle afternoon of playing Final Fantasy IV, and then an evening featuring a neighbours birthday, monopoly and the unfulfilled desire for caffine.
Saturday morning I headed in to the Manga festival at the Art Gallery. And spent practically the whle day there, broken only by an excursion to the Warehouse with Hugh and Angus to buy myself a desperately needed pair of shoes. that evening I was triply booked for places to go and people to see, so stayed home, watched Star Trek and breakfasted with some Cadbury's Ice Cream, lenting having finished with the setting of the sun.
Sunday, I returned to the Art Gallery and soaked up some more Manga, after sneaking into Nina and Becky's flat and putting Easter eggs at their doors. A well spent day. And then returning to the scene of my crime to explain the Old English tags I'd put on the eggs, I discovered a very sad lil' black boy, and spent a while trying to distract him from his misery - to little success. The evening was spent watching BAD television.
Monday, I decided to skip the early Manga, and only went to Devil Man (which was amazingly TERRIBLE, a total waste of 68 minutes of my life). On the way there I impulse bought Rift's World Book 4: Africa and the second hand book store, which was rather dumb arse as I will never use it. Then last evening I had caffne for the first time since February, and as such was wired and wide awake till about 2:30 in the morning - giving me a chance to flick through the book I'd bought.
Today I had a nice quite brain resting day of nothingness.
I am really going to have to break into my homework tomorrow.
Today's song quote - 'Donna' from Hair.

Manchester England England
Across the Atlantic Sea
And I'm a genius genius
I believe in God
And I believe that God
Believes in Claude
That's me that's me

Claude Hooper Bukowski
Finds that it's groovy
To hide in a movie
Pretends he's Fellini
And Antonioni
And also his countryman Roman Polanski
All rolled into one
One Claud Hooper Bukowski

Now that I've dropped out
Why is life dreary dreary
Answer my weary query
Timothy Leary dearie

Oh Manchester England England
Across the Atlantic Sea
And I'm a genius genius
I believe in God
And I believe that God
Believes in Claude
That's me (that's he)
That's me (that's he)
That's me (that's he)
That's me

Okay, I haven't died, but I may as well have. All I've done lately is play on my 'puter, now with a shiny new hard drive installed by Simon - to whom I am most greatful, study and procrastinate when i should be studying.
Oh, last Friday I went to a 21st and it was quite nice, even if I ended up in something of a mediating role. But that's not THAT unusual for me, me being an interferring pain in the arse and all.
On Saturday at a different 21st we were forcibly ejected from Palms Cafe for not ordering mains, so I'm now requesting all my readers to boycott the lousy place. And it's not like it's a nice place anyway.
Sunday and Monday were Chem oriented, with the occasional spat of Civilization II: Test of Time, which I bought on Sunday, and is proving quite fun.
Tuesday, I went into Varsity for a lecture that wasn't on, killed some time talking to the ever lovely Tina, came home, and played my some Civ.
Wednesday, English homework. Paleography bites the big one.
Today, finished the Paleography assignment, quite half arssidly, and even handed it in on time. Had lunch various weird personages. Issued a book from the uni library for the first time EVER. And played some Civ.
ATM I'm telling off Si for stuff what he is doing that he ought know better. But which I can't really blame him for, as much as I should. Darn human nature.
